On Friday, November 15. FGE presenter Barbara Cieply shared her late mother Regina Kleinberg-Cieply’s gripping story of survival during the Holocaust through a special Zoom presentation broadcast to all 500 students at Royal Vale High School. This event was organized as part of the EMSB’s Holocaust Education Program.

In addition to keeping the stories of survivors alive, our presentations encourage young people to make connections between the Holocaust and contemporary examples of antisemitism. This awareness is critical to develop critical thinking and empathy in the next generation.

[/split_line_heading][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” overflow=”visible” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/6″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][nectar_btn size=”large” open_new_tab=”true” button_style=”regular” button_color_2=”Extra-Color-2″ icon_family=”fontawesome” text=”EMSB ARTICLE” url=”https://holocausteducationmtl.com/students-hear-of-escape-from-the-warsaw-ghetto/” css_animation=”slideInDown”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”middle” column_margin=”50px” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” top_padding=”1%” constrain_group_1=”yes” bottom_padding=”1%” text_align=”left” row_position=”default” row_position_tablet=”inherit” row_position_phone=”inherit” overflow=”visible” pointer_events=”all” class=”hp_new_row”][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”left” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” overflow=”visible” advanced_gradient_angle=”0″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”2/6″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” gradient_type=”default” offset=”vc_col-xs-2″ column_padding_type=”default”][split_line_heading animation_type=”line-reveal-by-space” font_style=”h5″ text_color=”#33b44b” line_reveal_by_space_text_effect=”letter-reveal-top” content_alignment=”left” mobile_content_alignment=”inherit” link_target=”_self” text_content=”New Book ‘Genocide: Personal Stories, Big Questions'” font_line_height=”1″ font_size_phone=”46″ font_size_tablet=”70″ font_size=”5.5vh” text_direction=”default”][/split_line_heading][image_with_animation image_url=”3162″ image_size=”full” animation_type=”entrance” animation=”None” animation_movement_type=”transform_y” hover_animation=”none” alignment=”” border_radius=”none” box_shadow=”none” image_loading=”default” max_width=”100%” max_width_mobile=”default”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”10px” centered_text=”true” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” overflow=”visible” advanced_gradient_angle=”0″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”3/6″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” enable_animation=”true” animation=”fade-in-from-bottom” animation_easing=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” gradient_type=”default” offset=”vc_col-xs-10″ column_padding_type=”default”][split_line_heading animation_type=”line-reveal-by-space” font_style=”h5″ text_color=”#000000″ line_reveal_by_space_text_effect=”default” content_alignment=”left” mobile_content_alignment=”inherit” link_target=”_self” text_content=”Genocide through the eyes of a journalist” font_size=”3vh” text_direction=”default”][/split_line_heading][split_line_heading animation_type=”default” text_direction=”default”]

Genocide: Personal Stories, Big Questions, written by London-based journalist Heidi Kingstone, makes a difficult topic accessible for anyone to read. The book builds on Kingstone’s 20 years as a foreign correspondent for national and international media. It is a collection of stories centred around people that Kingstone has met, observing connections that weave their way through relationships, cultures, and continents across time, leading to parallels between the past and present.
